Wood fences:
The main factors to consider when choosing a fence are privacy, function, and cost. Our picket fences start at about $10 a linear foot and can go as high as $20 a foot which includes labor and materials.
Compare each fence type:
99.9% of wood fences on the east coast are built with pressure treated lumber. The main reason is cost. Cedar can be used, but because it comes from the West Coast, it adds many hundreds of dollars to the price of your fence. A good water sealer can add many years of life to your fence as well as color instead.
Pressure-treated wood
is wood that has chemical preservatives forced into it. This pressure-treatment helps the wood resist against termites, fungi, and rot. It is usually the most affordable type of fence. It is available at almost all lumber yards, the styles of fences (as seen above) are attractive; it is long-lasting. |

What kind of treated wood is available?
You can choose from different grades of lumber. HOWEVER, the industry standard is using the #2 grade which is available at all suppliers. Treatment does not affect the lumber grade; it simply makes the wood last longer. Southern yellow pine is the most common choice. With pine we can specify the proper grade and it readily accepts treatment. Our fence company "stick-builds" all of our fences. |
|
Is there any type of guarantee on treated wood or materials? Our Raleigh fence company like all other fence companies do not guarantee anything as far as the materials go. However, the manufacturer usually provides a warranty against damage caused by termites and fungal decay.

What about any cracking, warping, and graying that may occur?
Pressure-treated wood is protected from termites and decay, it is NOT sealed to withstand moisture. Wood is a natural material and expands and contracts when it absorbs water and dries in the sun. This how the majority of cracking and warping occurs. Fences can warp in as little as 10 minutes. NOT all fences will experience these problems, but it is HIGHLY recommended to water seal your fence which will help protect it from cracking, warping, and graying.
